Collecting and sharing local knowledge in Mozambique

People who have lived and worked on the land for generations have a wealth of knowledge about the benefits of local plants. This is true in Canada, as well as in Mozambique, where an iDE-led team is creating a library of natural pesticides.

This Polak Fund award winning team is working with communities around Mozambique to create manuals and tutorials on how to use local plants to prevent and control destructive pests from farmers’ crops. Using local plants to control pests reduces the need for chemical pesticides, which is expensive and can be unsafe if misused. Once complete, this library will be available in multiple local languages to farmers across the country.

Thank you for believing in the value of local knowledge. Knowledge that helps farmers grow more and earn more.
